Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has accepted a role as technical director of the PVF Football Academy in Vietnam.

Giggs is to sign a two-year contract at Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents FC, a PVF statement said on Monday, with the Welsh former winger reportedly set to start as early as next week.

Fellow ex-Red Devil icon Paul Scholes is also in line to join the academy as a technical adviser.

Part-time job

The 43-year-old will have a part-time consultancy role, only visiting Vietnam for a few days twice a year.

In his Super 6 Class of ’92 diary, Giggs spoke about his new job: “I've not actually taken a new full-time job, despite what some people were reporting. I'm only going for three days at for the launch of Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents FC's new academy, where me and Paul Scholes have agreed to go a couple of times a year to help establish a blueprint of Vietnamese grassroots football.

"They've just built a brand new academy so I'm going out with Scholesy for three days of consultancy, with the potential for to link up with Salford in the future.

"We're building our academy and university so these links across the world will help. It is supposed to be an amazing facility".

Giggs' responsibilities

Giggs will be responsible for "training players and coaches" and for "building and developing PVF to become the leading youth football centre in Vietnam", the academy said.

PVF will welcome both Giggs and Scholes at the opening ceremony of a new training centre in Hung Yen later this month.

Giggs has been out of coaching since leaving his position as assistant to former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal last year.
