Courtois puts brakes on Chelsea renewal as Madrid, PSG... wait
The world class goalkeeper has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2019 and the in-demand Belgian seems to be in no rush to sign an extension to his current deal.
“Regarding my contract, that’s something where Chelsea must deal with my agent. I don’t think there have been any new developments. We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team’s matches, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks.”, admitted Thibaut Courtois when he was asked by the press about his future.
Madrid, PSG, Juve or return to Atlético
This comes on the back of the highly rated Belgian goalkeeper being linked to a number of Europe's elite clubs. According to the Belgian media outlet HLN, Courtois' agent will ask Chelsea to double his player's salary or, it is said, they will listen to offers from Real Madrid, Atlético, PSG and Juventus, all whom have shown an interest. In his demands were met, he would earn around 230,000 euros per week, bringing him into the salary realm of Manchester United's David De Gea, the Premier League's highest paid goalkeeper.
From Real Madrid's perspective, if the recent talk of signing Kepa was not forthcoming, the former Atlético Madrid player could make a return to the Spanish capital, for their neighbours. but suggestions that current Rojiblanco number 1 Jan Oblak could leave would definitely make Courtois an attractive replacement, however, PSG and Juventus would also be in the mind of the goalkeeper if he decides to move on. The Italian giants see him as one of ideal replacements for club legend Buffon while in Paris he would be a step up on the current man between the posts, Trapp.
Clearly, around the time that agents are getting involved in new deals, many of the big clubs are put forward as alternatives, sometimes just to aid the negotiations.
