Theo Hernández gave the ball away 13 times in Fuenlabrada draw
The left-back has not convinced since his summer arrival from Atlético, giving Marcelo little to worry about.
Zinedine Zidane handed a starting berth to Theo Hernández for the visit of Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey. The Segunda B side held Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw courtesy of a last-gasp goal from Álvaro Portilla, yet the hosts progress to the next round after a 4-2 aggregate victory.
Theo's stats don't dazzle
The French left-back played the full 90 minutes, something he has only done on four other occasions this season (against Levante, Real Sociedad, Eibar, and in the first leg against Fuenlabrada).
On a miserable night for Madrid, Theo was particularly underwhelming. And the statistics demonstrate that. The 20-year-old only completed two tackles on Tuesday evening. He failed to make any interceptions, but did clear the ball on two occasions.
Marcelo unlikely to lose sleep
As his heat map shows, the French youngster stuck to the left flank. While his pass completion rate was good (91.7%), the aspect of his attacking play that should worry Real Madrid fans most is his lack of care in possession of the ball. Theo gave the ball away 13 time against Madrid’s lower-league neighbours.
Theo has not caused much concern for Marcelo – the incumbent of the left-back spot – since his contentious €30 million transfer from Atlético in the summer.
