Samuel Umtiti hobbled out of this afternoon's meeting between Barcelona and Celta on 71 minutes after pulling up whilst chasing Iago Aspas. The defender felt a sharp pain to his right Gluteus muscle and could not continue in the game. He was immeditaely taken off and replaced by Thomas Vermaelen.
Umtiti to miss El Clásico
The injury could not have happened at a more inopportune moment for Barça - it left Aspas free to dash past Jordi Alba and square the ball to Maxi Gómez to level the score. According to Mundo Deportivo, the first tests conducted by Doctor Ricard Pruna on Untiti's right leg have revealed a serious injury - in all likelihood a tear which would rule the player out for the next two months. It means Valverde will be without Umtiti for El Clásico against Real Madrid on 23 December. Barcelona issue a medical update on Umtiti shortly after 17:00 hours, confirming an injury to the player's right hamstring which will keep the player out for the next eight weeks.
Andrés Iniesta was also taken off during the game although as yet there are no details of his injury..
