L'Équipe: PSG could let Unai Emery go in January
The French sports daily reports that directors don't feel convinced that the Spaniard is the ideal coach to steer the team to triumph in the Champions League.
According to reports in today's edition of L'Équipe, Unai Emery's days could be numbered at PSG. Club owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi made it known that he is "not happy at all" with how the team has been playing, and the French sports daily claims that the coach could leave the club as early as January.
Flying high in Ligue 1
The team's dip in form could persuade PSG to look for a substitute next month - even though the team is nine points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table and set a new goals record in the Champions League group stage where they ended as champions of their group.
Other issues haven't helped - such as the disagreement between Neymar and Edinson Cavani over penalty-taking duties. PSG have only lost two games this season (In the league to Strasbourg and this week's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich), but the club have been on the lookout for a replacement for Emery for some time. Among the names who have been mentioned are Diego Pablo Simeone, Antonio Conte and José Mourinho. If Emery does see the season out but fails to take the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League at the very least, it's unlikely that his contract will be renewed. But if PSG are knocked out before then, Emery will surely lose his job.
L'Équipe assure that Emery is in the eye of the storm: "He's under scrutiny with the club's top brass - some of whom don't think he's the man who can guide the team to win the Champions League this season and they'd vote to sack him this winter".
