Mayoral starts to breathe down Benzema's neck
The Madrid-born striker has taken his chances this season, scoring a goal every 109 minutes, whereas the French forward has found the net every 234 minutes.
Repaying faith
Borja Mayoral has only played 437 minutes this season, but in that time has managed four goals (a goal every 109 minutes), despite only starting four games (against Real Sociedad in LaLiga, both legs versus Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League), which is enough to repay the faith shown in him by Zidane after the French coach argued against his departure in the summer.
Benzema looking over his shoulder
The goal average mentioned above puts him some way ahead of Benzema - his rival for the number '9' position - in the goalscoring stakes. The Frenchman has scored five goals so far this campaign (just one better than Mayoral), but across 1,172 minutes - a goal every 234 minutes.
Morata and Mariano
Mayoral also has better figures than the two strikers who departed in the summer: Morata has scored ten goals in 1,456 minutes (a goal every 145'), while this campaign Mariano has managed one every 117 minutes (13 in 1,519 minutes).
