Van Gaal surprises by labelling Dortmund "a small club"

The Dutch coach admitted turning down an offer from Bayer Leverkusen recently, but made it clear he would never coach Borussia Dortmund.

Update:
El entrenador holandés, Louis Van Gaal.

Louis van Gaal has been out of coaching since leaving the Manchester United job at the end of the 2015-2016 campaign. Since then, the Dutch coach has had no shortage of offers but none of which have tickled his fancy.

Van Gaal turns down Bayer Leverkusen

Van Gaal, who enjoyed success during spells at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich as well as the Holland national team, spoke to Fox Sports about the proposal he received from Bayer Leverkusen: "I had an offer from Bayer Leverkusen, a club which could adapt to me, with a lot of promising young players". But the 66-year-old wasn't entirely convinced.

He was then asked about his thoughts on coaching Borussia Dortmund but his reply will come as a surprise to many German football fans: "I don't think Dortmund can be ompared to Bayern Munich, so no. At the moment, coaches aren't given much time, so I wouldn't be able to transform a small club and convert it into a big club".

Dortmund, who recently brought in Peter Stöger, aren't enjoying a great campaign in the Bundesliga where they are sixth in the table and level on points with the two teams just below them - Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bayer Leverkusen meanwhile, are fourth but trailing the leaders, Bayern Munich, by 11 points.
