The acting president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has denied reports that Fifa has threatened to throw Spain out of next year's World Cup.

Fifa reportedly threatening to exclude Spain from World Cup

El País said on Friday that world football's governing authority has warned the RFEF that government interference in the election of its next president could see the body suspended as a member, leading La Roja to be excluded from Russia 2018.

However, Juan Luis Larrea says his only contact with Fifa's president, Gianni Infantino, has been with a view to keeping him fully abreast of developments at the RFEF, whose suspended chief, Ángel María Villar, was arrested in July this year over allegations of corruption.

Larrea: "Nobody's going to throw Spain out of World Cup"

At this month's World Cup draw in Moscow, Infantino voiced his concerns to Larrea over the situation at the RFEF, to which its interim president offered to set up a meeting with Ínigo Méndez de Vigo, Spain's minister of education, culture and sport, and the secretary of state for sport, José Ramón Lete.

But Larrea has insisted: "The meeting is only informative, and is under no circumstances punitive in nature."

"Nobody's going to throw Spain out of the World Cup," the 64-year-old added. "That's impossible, and hasn't even been talked about. It's not going to happen."
