Lautaro Martínez has signed Atlético Madrid deal, says agent
Rolando Zárate claims the Racing Club de Avellanada forward's move to Atlético Madrid is a done deal, but Atlético Madrid say talks are ongoingNigeria B - Atlético Madrid: friendly
The agent of Atlético Madrid target Lautaro Martínez says the Racing Club de Avellanada forward has already put pen to paper with the LaLiga club - a claim Los Rojiblancos contradict.
Lautaro Martínez agent: "He has decided his future"
Asked about speculation that Serie A sides Inter Milan and Torino are eyeing Martínez, Rolando Zárate told TuttoMercatoWeb: "It's always nice to see clubs take an interest in him, I've read about these rumours, but Lautaro has decided his future. He signed [a deal] with Atlético two weeks ago and will join [Diego] Simeone's team soon."
However, Atlético maintain that talks are advanced but are still ongoing, and that no agreement has been signed either with the 20-year-old or his club.
Racing are understood to have rejected an Atlético offer of 12.75 million euros plus 10% of a future sale - a bid which, with Los Colchoneros seeking to avoid tensions with Racing by unilaterally meeting his release clause, is almost four million euros higher than the striker's nine-million buy-out figure.
Would join Atlético Madrid in the summer
An Atlético deal for Martínez is expected to see him remain at Racing until June before moving to Spain for the 2018/19 season. He would take up one of the club's three permitted spots for players with non-European Union passports, but with Axel Werner and Nico Gaitán their only squad members from outside the EU - and tipped for exits - this will not prove a stumbling block.
He would be the 12th Argentinian signed by the club during former Albiceleste international Simeone's tenure as boss.
