Barça sweating over Jordi Alba fitness ahead of Clásico
The club confirmed that the Spain left back did specific work on Wednesday after missing training on Tuesday. Alba was taken off against Deportivo.
Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that Spain left back Jordi Alba, who has been one of the most in-form players in Ernesto Valverde’s squad this season, did not train with his teammates and instead worked alone.
Alba also did not appear on the training ground on Monday to participate in a recovery session after the victory over Deportivo and was absent from training on Tuesday. Valverde also made the decision to substitute Alba in the 80th minute of the Depor game and although Barça have not issued a statement on the player’s fitness missing three days of training with three days until the Clásico is not good news for the Barça boss.
Alba absence would pose defensive headache for Valverde
The absence of Alba on Saturday in the Bernabéu would pose a double problem for Valverde: not only have the left back and Leo Messi been combining to devastating effect this season but the Barça coach would also be forced to play a defensive combination on the left side of his back four of Lucas Digne and Thomas Vermaelen, who have not played together at all in 2017-18.
