Cristiano Ronaldo caused a stir on social media on Thursday by posting a photo in which the Real Madrid star can be seen sporting an eye-catching look.
CR7's pre-Clásico style: all in black, purple-tinted glasses
Cristiano, whose Real side take on arch rivals Barcelona in El Clásico on Saturday, surprised his followers on Instagram by opting for an all-black outfit complemented by purple-tinted sunglasses and a silver chain.
The 32-year-old offered no commentary on his innovative get-up, limiting his caption to an emoticon depicting the symbol of the 'clubs' playing-cards suit.
Instagramers' reactions to Cristiano come flooding in
The striker's bold choice of attire did not go unnoticed among his more than 117 million followers on the social-networking platform. At the time of writing, his post had amassed 3 million 'likes', and had also attracted almost 40,000 comments.
Among Instagramers' reactions were quips comparing his look with that of a gangster, a ninja, Keanu Reeves' character in the Matrix film franchise, rapper Puff Daddy and even the martial-arts movie star Bruce Lee.
Cristiano training away from Real Madrid group
Since Real Madrid's return from the Club World Cup, Cristiano has trained away from the group in the three sessions that the team have undergone as they prepare to host Barça.
Real have not given any explanation on the physical issues affecting the player, but it is thought to be only a precaution and, barring any late surprises, he is expected to be fit to start against the Blaugrana.
