Three clubs are keen to sign Mikel Arteta; Pep hopes to keep him at Manchester City
The Basque former player is highly rated in England and could go it alone as a manager although his relationship with Pep and City is very strong.
In little over a year, Mikel Arteta has become one of the key members of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester City and that is borne out by the number of Premier League who have been keen to offer him work - some, offering managerial positions.
Everton considered Arteta before Big Sam
Everton were quick to spot Arteta's coaching potential and footballing brain when he was on the books as a player and a few weeks ago his name was put forward by Chairman Bill Kenwright as a possible successor to Ronald Koeman only for the board to decide on the more experienced Sam Allardyce.
The Mirror reports today that Arteta's name has been heard mentioned in the back offices at Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino has tried to lure him away with the offer of a post within Spurs' technical department.
Arteta, an Arsenal idol
But the club which has really been pushing hard for Arteta is Arsenal. The Gunners plan to offer their former player a position in the short to medium term - first as Arsène Wenger's right-hand man then eventually as his successor. Arteta is idolized by Arsenal fans and such is his appeal that his arrival would be whole heartedly welcomed.
However, it would be extremely difficult to convince the Basque to quit his role as Guardiola's assistant with City right at this moment. Arteta enjoys a great working relationship with Pep , although it remains to be seen how long he is willing to work in a secondary role or whether he has the ambition to go it alone and become a manager in his own right.
