Sampaoli to call up Atlético target Lautaro Martínez for Italy and Spain

The Racing striker will call up Martínez to play Italy and Spain with the game against the latter taking place in Atlético's Wanda Metropolitano.

Sampaoli to call up Atlético target Lautaro Martínez for Italy and Spain

Jorge Sampaoli is considering calling up Atlético Madrid target and Racing Club striker, Lautaro Martínez for Argentina's upcoming games against Italy and Spain ahead of the World Cup in Russia during the summer. Earning himself a place in the squad for the World Cup seems like a tall task, however, but the faith Sampaoli is set to place in him is a good sign for the rising star.

The first of the two games will take place on March 23rd in Basil against Italy. The Italian missed out on the World Cup but are a powerhouse in international football and will be a good test for Argentina and Sampaoli. The next game, scheduled for March 27th against Spain at the Wanda Metropolitano will be a test against one of the favourites for the competition. If all goes to plan for Atlético Madrid, it will be where Martínez plays for a long time to come as they hope to lure him to Madrid in the future.

In other news, another player set to be recalled by Sampaoli is Gonzalo Higuain. He has regained his best form recently after being overtaken by Mauro Icardi at the top of Argentina's attack but the fight for that position is set to drag on until the World Cup in Russia.
