Barcelona 5-0 Celta Vigo (6-1 aggregate): match report

Fresh off two excellent draws with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Celta vigo capitulated at the Camp Nou on Thursday night as they bowed out of the Copa del Rey with little struggle.

Lionel Messi had Barcelona ahead after 13 minutes after a strong opening from the home side and when he scored his second, two minutes later, with a second assist from Jordi Alba, there was no way back for Juan Carlos Unzue's side.

Messi returned his left-back's generosity on 28 minutes when he dropped what is fast becoming a trademark pass onto Alba's foot to make it 3-0.

Just three minutes later and Luis Suarez made it three when a sloppy backpass from Pione Sisto was jumped and buried before Celta had even realised they lost the ball.

It was over as a contest at that stage and Valverde got to rest Iniesta and Messi for some of the second half while Gerard Piqué withdrew at the break.

Ivan Rakitic made it a five-star, five-goal night at the Camp Nou with a headed finish from a Ousmane Dembele corner on 87 minutes as Barca march into the last eight of the competition they won last year.

Celta Vigo are coming off an excellent result and performance against Real Madrid in which they drew 2-2 and dominated large spells of the game. They have matched Barcelona every step of the way in their two previous encounters this season too with a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou followed by a 1-1 draw in the 1st leg of the Copa del Rey last week.

Barcelona are still looking strong in LaLiga and sit at the top of the table along with having a Champions League knock-out tie with Chelsea on the horizon. They might very well have intentions of a treble this season in Ernesto Valverde's first year on the bench and defending their Copa del Rey crown is important to their

Iago Aspas has been a constant pain for Barcelona and he seems to love playing against the blaugranas. The combination of Daniel Wass, a much-improved Pione Sisto and Maxi Goméz up front along with Aspas sitting neatly behind them has been the key to Carlos Unzue's successes in his role as manager of the Galician club and will again rely on his attacking four for ultimate disruption against a Barcelona side who have struggled to live with them this season.
