Arriving in Manchester for Argentina's friendly with Italy, the in-demand Racing striker said his move to the Serie A giants is close to being made official.

Atlético target Lautaro: "It's more or less arranged with Inter"

Lautaro Martínez, whose form for Racing de Avellaneda has attracted the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs including Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, has stated that he is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Speaking on his arrival in Manchester to meet up with the rest of the Argentina squad ahead of the friendly match against Italy on Friday, Lautaro explained that Inter appear to have won the race to sign the 20-year-old striker, who will make his debut for Jorge Sampaoli’s side in Manchester if he features against the Azzurri after winning 11 caps and scoring eight times for the under-21s last year.

It’s pretty much all finalized,” Lautaro told reporters from Argentinean broadcaster TyC Sports. “When I left Argentina there were just a few details to sort out. When I go back there’ll be a meeting with my agent and everything will be arranged then.”

Atlético Madrid had been thought to be in pole position for the striker, with various offers made and talks between the clubs at an advanced stage. However, then Dortmund, Real Madrid and Inter started to take an interest and it seems now that the Serie A side have won the race for his signature, with a fee of 30 million euros reported to be on the table.

The links between former Inter and Racing striker Diego Milito, a mentor to Lautaro at the Argentinean club, and the Serie A outfit appear to have been instrumental in the transfer, despite Diego Simeone’s pursuit of his compatriot.
