Injury-hit Ødegaard out for the rest of the season
Heerenveen confirm that the Norwegian midfielder will not play again this season in the Eredivisie. His loan spell in Holland is effectively over.
Martin Ødegaard's loan spell with Heerenveen has come to an abrupt end due to an injury he suffered during the team's 1-2 win at Heracles at the weekend.
Second injury this season
The young midfielder was forced to retire from the game on 61 minutes. This afternoon, the club has confirmed the worst fears - Ødegaard has suffered a fractured metatarsal and will play no further part in the campaign. It's not his first injury setback - he spent December on the sidelines with a fractured ankle bone.
Real Madrid's plans
With just five league games left in the Eredivisie, Ødegaard has effectively played his last game for Heerenveen. His 18-month loan spell comes to an end with a balance of three goals and five assists. The Norwegian midffielder started 37 games during his time with the club and now must wait to see what future lies in store for him when he returns to Real Madrid this summer.
