Griezmann on target for most productive Atlético season
The France striker is just one goal or assist away from bettering his previous best over a Liga season in an Atlético shirt.
Antoine Griezmann has been in fine form since the turn of the year and the Atlético striker is now just a single goal or assist away from chalking up his best numbers at the club since his move from Real Sociedad in 2014.
So far in 2017-18 Griezmann has scored 26 goals and teed up 11 more for his teammates, having a direct hand in 37 strikes for the club. In each of the last two seasons, the France striker ended the campaign with a total of 38: 26 goals and 12 assists in 2016-17 and 32 goals and six assists in 2015-16.
The Atlético forwards numbers are even more impressive when taking into account his slow start to the campaign. Before January, he had scored seven goals and provided five assists, a slightly better return than at the same stage of the previous two campaigns.
Griezmann on fire in 2018
Since the winter break, Griezmann has been in ruthless boding, hitting 19 goals and laying on six assists. In only four games in 2018 has Griezmann failed to either score or make a pass to a teammate that has ended in the back of the net. In consecutive games against Sevilla and Leganés he scored seven times and provided one assist.
Griezmann now requires just one more of either in the remaining six games to complete his most productive season at Atlético before heading to the World Cup where France’s hopes lie squrely on his shoulders.
