Álvaro Morata meets with Juventus sporting director in Milan

Following a forgettable debut season with Chelsea, Álvaro Morata appears to be closing in on a return to Juventus.

Morata meets with Juventus

Various Italian sources, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and El Corriere della Sera, reported on Wednesday that Morata met with Fabio Paratici, the Juventus sporting director, on Via Montenapoleone in Milan. Morata’s agent, Juanma López, was also present.

Morata is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022, but has not lived up to expectations at Chelsea following his €80-million transfer from Real Madrid last summer. The 25-year-old, who spent two seasons at Juventus between 2014 and 2016, did not make Julen Lopetegui’s Spain squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Higuaín exchange possible

Morata is eager for the deal to be closed, but the club believe it could be complicated by the large fee that Chelsea paid under 12 months ago.

If a permanent transfer is not possible, Juventus would be interested in a loan deal, as they did with Colombia international Juan Cuadrado in 2015. A swap deal with Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuaín is also a possibility.
