The World Cup is fast approaching and club football jerseys are slowly being filtered out with national team jerseys taking over. There have been some crimes against fashion when it comes to national team kits but Nigeria's "uniqueness" has seen three million people around the world pre-order the jersey.
NFF Vice President Shehu Dikko told KweséESPN that "it is the best selling kit due to uniqueness" and the three million that have been pre-ordered is a record. The NFF released an article with Dikko saying, "The new Super Eagles’ jerseys will be released into the global market, including several NIKE shops across Nigeria, on 29th May 2018, just before the Eagles fly out to London for the friendly match against England. The cost would be $85 for one,”
Dikko continued to tell ESPN, "They cannot produce without orders, and some of these orders may not be delivered until next year but the stores have placed them now to ensure they have consistent supply and don't run out of stock."
According to the ESPN article, counterfeit versions of the jersey are being sold with the actual Nigerian strip not being available to but yet with less than a month to the World Cup's first game. The knockoffs are being sold for 10,000 Nairas, approximately €23, which is substantially less than the price of the real version of 30,000 Nairas or €70 approx.
