Casillas on Zidane's exit: "It will be difficult to replace him"
Iker says Real Madrid need calm and prudence: "Zizou won over the hearts of the fans. We have to respect his decision and thank him for everything he's done".
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has called for "calm and common sense" from fans who were stunned this afternoon to hear that Zinedine Zidane has resigned from the coaching job with the newly crowned European champions, although the Porto player admitted that Zizou is going to be a hard act to follow.
Respect and gratitude for what Zidane's achieved
"Zidane's legacy is going to be difficult to surpass, it is going to be very tough for the coach who comes in to occupy the vacant coaching post; what Real Madrid need right now is calm and prudence. Zidane has guided the team to three consecutive Champions League triumphs and that is going to be very difficult to match", Casillas explained during his first day as a football pundit on TV Azteca where he will be offering his expertise during next month's World Cup finals. "As a coach, Zidane knew how to win the hearts of the fans. We have to respect his decision and thank him for everything he has done during his time in the job", Iker added.
Casillas elected Spain as his favourite to be crowned world champions in Russia and feels that coach Julen Lopetegui could not have put together a better squad for the tournament. The keeper is looking forward to what will be a brand new experience for him, providing complimentary commentary to TV Azteca live coverage of World Cup Russia. "I'm a bit nervous about it, after having played in the last four World Cup finals, it'll be a novel way for me to follow it, but I'm looking forward to learning something new - you can always keep learning and little by little I'm sure my initial fears will go".
