BARCELONA

Yerry Mina won't be at Barcelona next season

The Colombian is going to Russia for the World Cup and will be trying to seduce suitors as Barcelona don't need the defender at the club.

Update:
Yerry Mina won't be at Barcelona next season

Yerry Mina won't be at Barcelona next season. This is the decision at the moment made by Barcelona directors regarding the future of the Colombian. Pep Segura, the general manager in the area of football, decided to take a chance on the defender last winter at €12 million - a fee that would have dropped to €9 million this summer. The player, who they signed from Pameiras, has failed to adapt and there are lingering doubts over his ability to do so. A sale or a loan for a season or two are not out of the question.

Barcelona consider Gerard Piqué, Samuel Umtiti, who recently renewed until 2023, and Thomas Vermaelen, who has a year left on his contract, as adequate cover at the position. Although, the club are still feeling their way through the possibility of signing Clement Lenglet from Sevilla. If they do sign the Frenchman, if would close off any chances of playing time for Mina.

Mina is currently with Colombia for the World Cup in Russia and he knows that he has a lot to play for this summer. He has the chance to seduce potential suitors and convince of his quality. No club has made a formal approach, however, and they might be waiting to see how he does with los cafeteros.

The passport might work against the defender

Having arrived at Barcelona in January as a non-European member of the squad, Barcelona value these positions and need to make the absolute most out of them. Currently, Paulinho Bezzerra and Philippe Coutinho occupy those spaces along with Mina. The Colombian tried to get a Portuguese passport through his wife, who holds nationality there and with Arthur arriving soon too, it seems they need to move someone out to facilitate the Brazilian midfielder.
