Peter Schmeichel sends touching message to Kasper and Denmark

The former national team goalkeeper used social media to show how proud he was of his son and the rest of the current side as they said goodbye to Russia 2018.

Peter Schmeichel, the legendary Denmark and Manchester United stopper, wanted to show his pride and respect for what the current crop on national players had achieved at this summer's World Cup in Russia. A special part of that pride, naturally, was due to his son, Kasper, being the man responsible for keeping goal.

Denmark qualified from Group C in second place behind France, with a single goal enough to pick up three points in game one followed by draws against Australia and France. In the last 16 match, they were finally overcome by Croatia in a tense penalty shootout.

Along with a photo of father and son from several years ago, Schmeichel senior wrote: Lost for words. Can’t be more proud of my country, my son, his teammates, all the staff and our fantastic national coach Åge Hareide. When all the tears have dried out we will realise how well we did.
