The veteran joins on a free transfer from Juventus. Now aged 40, the legendary Italian goalkeeper will sign for one season with the option of a second.
Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will be officially unveiled by Paris Saint Germain this Monday, 9 July, according to reports in today's Le Parisien.
Buffon, who turned 40 at the start of the year, has been linked to PSG since May, when it emerged he would not be renewing his contract with Juventus, where he has spent the last 17 years. According to today's reports, Buffon is set to join on a free contract, and will sign a one-year deal with the French club with the option of a second season, once he passes a medical revision.
World Cup winner with Italy
Buffon is considered a football legend for his charisma as well as his qualities between the sticks. Among the many successes of his lond and distinguished career is the World Cup which Italy lifted in 2006, nine Serie A titles with Juve but curiously, he has never won the Champions League in spite of playing in three finals.
UEFA three-match ban
His arrival will surely open the door to Alphonse Areola, who was PSG's first choice keeper last season. Buffon however, will miss the team's first three Champions League games as he must serve a suspension carried over from last season's tournament for protesting a late penalty awarded to Real Madrid in the quarter finals.
