If reports in Italian media are correct, Croatian international Nikola Kalinic will soon be on his way to Madrid. Newspaper Corriere della Sera claims that a deal has already been struck between Atlético and AC Milan, which now just awaits approval this Saturday the Italian club’s new board on Saturday.

Earlier this month, the Serie A club was taken over by US investment firm Elliott Management after former owner Li Yonghong failed to repay a €32million debt. This news followed UEFA’s sanctions at the end of June, which excludes AC Milan from all European competitions, after the club failed to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations last year.

Atlético await the green light

According to Corriere della Sera, Atlético will have to wait until the club’s new board convenes on Saturday to give the green light to the deal already agreed between the Madrid outfit and the previous AC Milan board. The deal entails Atlético singing Kalinic on loan with the obligation to buy at the end of the season, for a fee close to 20 million euros.

Kalinic was part of the Croatian World Cup squad that flew to Russia in early June, but did not pick a runners-up medal with his teammates last Sunday. The 30-year-old had been dismissed by Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic earlier in the tournament, after he refused to come off the bench during Croatia’s group game against Nigeria.
