Liverpool table significant offer for Roma goalkeeper Alisson
Acoording to the Liverpool Echo, Jürgen Klopp's team have tabled a 70 million euro offer for the Brazil international, who is also on Chelsea's radar.
Alisson Becker now knows just how serious Liverpool are about bringing him to Anfield this summer. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have made a formal bid of around 60 million euros plus a further 10M in performance-related add-ons for the Roma goalkeeper, who is also on Chelsea's agenda, in case Thibaut Courtois moves to Real Madrid.
Top clubs tussle for Alisson
The back offices at the Olimpico have been a hive of activity since the start of the summer; Alisson has attracted a host of admirers as a result of the extraordinary year he has enjoyed with the Giallorossi and crowned by an acceptable World Cup in Russia with Brazil. Roma are rubbing their hands at the prospect of a bidding war for their prized keeper, who they value at 75 million euros - a price which Real Madrid, who have also been tracking the player, withdrew their interest.
That has left the two English clubs to fight it out for Alisson, but in today's new development, Liverpool have put their money where their mouth is and that gives them a significant advantage in their bid to land the keeper. Roma are believed to be studying the offer, which falls just short of the 75 million euros they are asking for but Liverpool hope it will be tempting enough for them to accept.
Monchi, the Director of Sport at the Italian outfit, said recently that Roma don't need to sell to balance the books but such a big offer, a world receord fee for a goalkeeper, would be a windfall which any club would find difficult to resist.
Roma considering Liverpool's offer for Alisson
But Roma haven't ruled out receiving a counter offer from Chelsea, who have the next six weeks to find the funds to outbid Liverpool. If Alisson does end up joining Liverpool, Roma have a contingency plan - they will put in an offer for Alphonse Areola, who will be competing for a place in the starting XI at PSG with Gianluigi Buffon.
Domino effect: Chelsea-Liverpool-Madrid
Alisson, Courtois, Chelsea, Roma, Real Madrid and Liverpool find themselves as pawns in a puzzle which could produce a number of different outcomes. If Liverpool have their offer accpted by Roma in the next few hours and Chelsea miss out on the man they have earmarked as Courtois' replacement, the Londoners will pull out all the plugs to ensure that the Belgium keeper does not leave for Real Madrid, whicgh would leave them in the difficult position of trying to find a world class replacement in a market with few options.
