Conceição: "I have six players who aren't good enough"

Porto manager Sérgio Conceição laid into his own players after the Primeira Liga champions were beaten 2-1 by Portimonense in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday.

In an open message to Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, Conceição told reporters after the game: "I have half a dozen players who are not good enough to play for Porto. It's plain for everybody to see. I ended the match with a defensive line consisting of Oleg, who plays for the B team, Mikel, Diogo Leite, who is also with the B team, and Janko”, he said.

"I am here to to work and draw conclusions during pre-season so that when we start out league campaign against Aves on August 4 we can give a completely different account of ourselves compared to the result we obtained today," Conceição added.

Porto not making any waves in the transfer market

Porto won their first trophy in five years when they beat Benfica and Sporting to the Primeira Liga title last season and despite pocketing over 60 million euros in sales this summer the club have added only 14 million euros' worth of new players this summer while losing experienced players such as Iván Marcano, Miguel Layún and Ricardo Pereira as well as selling the jewel of the academy, 19-year-old Diogo Dalot, to Manchester United.
