Ajax slam the door shut on Barça over Frenkie de Jong
Marc Overmars, the Dutch club's sporting director, has made it perfectly clear that the Camp Nou target is not for sale this summer.
Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has reiterated the club’s stance over three of their most coveted players, including Barcelona target Frenkie de Jong.
“They are not for sale and I have said that to the interested clubs,” the former Arsenal winger told Dutch daily De Telegraaf regarding De Jong, Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt. “Let them come back next year. Allow them to play 40 games for Ajax this season. They won’t be leaving even for ridiculous money.”
De Jong (21), De Beek (21) and De Ligt (18), who is the club vice-captain, are three of the most high-profile of the products of Ajax’s prolific academy, which is often the first port of call for Europe’s big spenders on the lookout for the next big thing.
Barcelona to contunie pursuit of Rabiot with De Jong off-limits
However, Overmars has now insisted on three occasions that De Jong will not be sold this summer despite his Barça counterpart Éric Abidal making the midfielder a top priority after the departure of Andrés Iniesta and Paulinho.
With Arthur already in the bag, Barça are likely to step up their pursuit of PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
