Sven-Goran Eriksson holds talks with Cameroon over coach's job
The Cameroon job has been vacant since Hugo Broos left when his contract ended in February.
The Cameroon Football Association (Fecafoot) has confirmed discussions with former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson to take over as coach of the national team.
The 70-year-old Swede held positive talks with Fecafoot officials in Yaoundé last week, according to a statement by the governing body.
"After spending 72 hours, Sven-Goran Eriksson left Yaoundé on Saturday 28 July 2018," Fecafoot declared on Twitter.
"The Swedish manager was invited to Cameroon for a discussion in connection with the recruitment of a head coach for the senior national side - the Indomitable Lions.
"After the interview with Sven-Goran Eriksson and taking into account the other existing offers, Fecafoot will reveal in the next few days its choice of permanent coach for our national team," the federation added.
Cameroon's coaching position became vacant in February when Hugo Broos departed at the end of his contract.
Currently, the former Liverpool defender Rigobert Song is serving as caretaker.
Eriksson also linked with Iraq job
Cameroon is not the only potential destination for Eriksson's return to coaching. According to a report by Reuters, the former England boss is also in discussions to become Iraq's new manager.
In addition to Fecafoot, last week also saw the Swede meet with representatives of the Iraq Football Association (IFA).
Sources close to Eriksson told Reuters that he is yet to make a decision on whether to accept Iraq's offer.
Eriksson's return to coaching
If Eriksson accepts either the Iraq or the Cameroon job, it would mean a return to work after a year out of the game following his exit from Shenzhen FC last summer.
After enjoying great success as a club manager for teams like Roma, Benfica and Sampdoria, Eriksson managed England between 2001 and 2006, guiding the Three Lions to the World Cup quarter-finals on two occasions.
He has not coached at international level since working with Ivory Coast at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Most recently, he spent six months in China's second division with Shenzhen. He also had stints with Chinese Super League sides Guangzhou R&F and Shanghai SIPG.
