Real Madrid's Modric reportedly agitating for shock Inter move

Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Luka Modric's wife has made contact with Inter Milan to offer them the Real Madrid man's services.

Real Madrid's Modric reportedly agitating for shock Inter move

Following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid last month, Los Blancos could be about to see another big name make a surprise summer exit, claims Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian daily says that recent reports suggesting Luka Modric could join Serie A club Inter Milan are more than just rumours; indeed, the player himself is agitating for a switch to the San Siro, the publication alleges.

Modric's wife has reportedly offered husband to Inter

Gazzetta says Modric's wife, Vanja Bosnic, has made contact with Inter to offer the midfielder to the Italians. Unsurprisingly, the Nerazzurri are said to have reacted enthusiastically to the possibility of securing the Croatia captain's services - but are aware that, even if the player himself is looking to leave Real after six years at the Bernabéu, making such a deal happen will be far from straightforward.

Move unlikely for several reasons...

Firstly, Real would certainly be fiercely resistant to letting a second key player depart in the same transfer window. Despite being almost 33 now, Modric's dazzling displays at the World Cup in Russia - where he won the Golden Ball as Croatia reached the final - showed that he remains unaffected by his advancing years. Indeed, Real are preparing to hand him an extended contract on improved terms.

And with Modric's stock higher than ever, Inter would have to dig very deep to prise the former Tottenham and Dinamo Zagreb man away from Spain, potentially putting such a strain on the club's coffers that they would be in danger of breaching Uefa's 'financial fair play' rules. For this reason, claims Gazzetta, Inter would seek an initial loan deal with an option to buy - a solution which, unless the purchase clause were obligatory, Real would not be expected to countenance.

A further stumbling block is time: Real would surely be against letting a player of Modric's importance leave at this late stage of the transfer window, given that they would only have until the end of the month to seek out a replacement. What's more, Inter are believed to have lined up Arturo Vidal should they fail to land Modric, and, with talks with the Bayern Munich player seemingly at an advanced stage, they will not be able to wait for the Croat forever.
