Despite Real Madrid's response to Gazzetta Dello Sport's report that Luka Modric is agitating for a move out of the club, the Italian newspaper has doubled down. They say Modric will meet with Florentino Perez in an effort to convince him to let him leave the club for Inter Milan.

According to the Italian newspaper, he will meet Perez next week when the Croatian returns from his vacation after his World Cup travails. The midfielder is looking for new challenges and will try to convince Perez that he wants to leave given the great expectations at Inter Milan. Modric wants to be part of it. It doesn't help that Modric's agent is currently in Milan but he also represents Sime Vrsaljko, who has just signed with the club.

Modric renewed his contract until 2020 and he is 32 years old, which would mean he is 34 at the end of his contract and likely nearing retirement age. He is on €9 million a year and reports suggest he would not be looking for a hike in wages in Italy. He is not in the same boat as Ronaldo but was investigated by the Spanish tax authority and was forced to pay €1 million to avoid any trouble. The new tax law in Italy might also be an incentive for the Croatian.

According to Gazzetta, Inter have another name on their list but they do not want it to come to light in case it hinders a move for Modric. They might only have one decent shot at getting this right and they don't want to mess it up. Arturo Vidal, who was heavily linked with Inter and looks to be on his way to Barcelona, might also make Inter even more desperate to make a top class midfield signing.
