Bale takes the baton from Cristiano Ronaldo
The Welshman scored one and had a hand in the other as Madrid beat Getafe 2-0, continuing his remarkable recent effectiveness in front of goal.
Gareth Bale has taken up the opportunity presented after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and is positioning himself to be the main scorer and star player in Julen Lopetegui’s Real Madrid side after a goal and an assist against Getafe confirmed the Welshman’s state of grace.
Bale also hit the post in Sunday night’s game after scoring in three consecutive pre-season fixtures. In competitive matches, the Real forward is approaching untouchable status. Eight of his last 11 shots on goal have ended up in the back of the net and when Bale wraps his foot around the ball the result is proving unstoppable for opposition keepers. The statistic is even more remarkable taking into account that those three misses all came in a single game against Celta last season.
Bale a quick starter in LaLiga
The Wales international is used to coming out of the blocks quickly. Last season he scored one and assisted another in the 3-0 victory over Deportivo in Riazor and the season before that he bagged a brace in Real’s opener away at Real Sociedad, which ended with the same scoreline. In both those matches, Cristiano Ronaldo did not play.
Real are placing a lot of faith in Bale this season to hit scoring heights similar to the of his former teammate and so far he is stepping up to the plate. If he can remain injury-free, Bale looks on course to better the 22 goals he scored in his first season in Madrid in 2013-14, which remains his most prolific season to date for Real.
