ATLÉTICO MADRID

Filipe Luis insists on going to PSG

PSG have offered five million euros for the Brazilian defender, but Atlético Madrid have asked for 30 million. If PSG are willing to meet Atlético's price tag, he will leave.

Update:
Filipe Luis insists on going to PSG

After a meeting with Atlético Madrid and coach Diego Simeone this Tuesday, Felipe Luis is still insisting that he wants to leave the club for PSG.

The Parisian club have reportedly offered 5 million euros for the Brazilian defender, who started for Altético in the 1-1 draw against Valencia at the Mestalla last night in the absence of the suspended Lucas Hernandez. But Atlético have set his price tag at 30 million euros in a bid to deter PSG.

Filipe Luis is seen as an integral figure for Diego Simeone, as he is the only natural left back in his squad (although Lucas Hernandez, a natural centre-back, played in the left back positon last season and for France at the World Cup).

Contract conditions

The 33-year-old’s contract is set to expire in June and so far Atlético has not made him a satisfactory offer. PSG, meanwhile, have offered him an attractive two-year contract, plus another one year optional, which has made him rethink his plan to finish his career at Altético after, returning to the club from Chelsea two seasons ago.

Yesterday, several sources indicated to AS that the relationship between Filipe Luís and Simeone has become strained in recent months, and would be another factor in his desire to go. If PSG are willing to pay the 30-million-euro price tag set by Atletico, he will likely leave.

Finding a replacement

The problem for Diego Simeone, of course, would be trying to find a replacement at this late stage in August. There are 10 days left until the transfer deadline in Spain, while the transfer windows in both Italy and England have already closed (although English and French clubs can still sell but not buy players).

One player who could be a target replacement for Felipe Luis is Chelsea’s Marcus Alonso, who is reportedly of interest to both Atlético and Real Madrid. If the Brazilian defender leaves the Wanda Metropolitano in the coming days, the two Madrid rivals could find themselves in a tussle for his signature.
