REAL MADRID

Contrasting fortunes for Keylor and Courtois in San Mamés

During his Atlético days, the Belgian keeper let in seven goals in three games in Bilbao, compared to Keylor's two in three for Madrid.

Madrid
¿Keylor o Courtois? Lopetegui decidirá hoy quién juega en San Mamés.

Once again, Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui faces a familiar Courtois-Keylor dilemma for his side's trip to San Mamés on Saturday evening. Keylor Navas did not travel with Costa Rica and continued training in Valdebebas, while Courtois played for Belgium and made a solid debut in Madrid's 4-1 win over Leganés before the international break. However, despite recent appearances and form there is one telling statistic between the two:

Courtois

Courtois played in San Mamés on three occasions while playing for Atlético, losing twice (both to 3-0 scorelines) in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 season, and winning the other (1-2 in the 2013-14 campaign), shipping a total of seven goals - 2.33 per game

Keylor

On the other hand, Keylor, who funnily enough was the last goalkeeper to play in the old San Mamés during his time at Levante, has a more impressive record. He too has played there three times, but has won twice, 1-2 on both occasions, and overseen a 0-0 draw, conceding a total of two goals - average of 0.66 per game. Moreover, in the win in the 2016-17 season his performance was particularly impressive as he made a number of fine saves.

It remains to be seen whether present or past performances play a part in Lopetegui's decision.
