Jan Oblak will not play with Slovenia for the next six months after asking the country's football federation for a break to recover from injury. The Slovenian football federation reported this request by the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.

According to the statement released by the federation, Oblak met with Radenko Mijatović and asked him to not be considered for the next six months in an effort to overcome lingering physical problems.

He accepted the captaincy of the national team when he returns and the statement says he is very keen to make history with the national side but has asked to be exempt from call-up until the spring.

Oblak suffered a dislocated shoulder two seasons ago and missed 15 games and he suffered a glute injury last season also. Aside from that, he suffered a groin injury but has been reasonably fit for most of his time at the club.
