LaLiga table without VAR: Real Madrid, Girona with fewer points

Only four teams would have a different points total so far, while no fewer than six sides are yet to see a decision-changing video review.

With seven rounds of the LaLiga season played so far (barring Celta Vigo's clash with Getafe tonight, and Rayo Vallecano's postponed week-three match against Athletic Bilbao), the league table would, it turns out, look very similar without VAR.

Only four teams would have different points total

That's because the system may have led to four goals and seen two chalked off, but those decisions have translated into very few points - so much so that only four teams would be left with a different points total: Real Madrid and Girona would have two fewer, and Espanyol and Villarreal would each have one more.

In Real and Espanyol's case, this is a result of Marco Asensio's week-five winner for Los Blancos against the Catalans, which was initially flagged offside before being given after a video review. Meanwhile, Girona secured a 1-0 victory at Villarreal in week three after a Toko Ekambi strike for the hosts was rightly ruled offside.

This weekend, VAR brought about two goals - but no actual effect on the points column. Huesca and Girona both converted penalties awarded after video replays in a 1-1 draw at the Estadio El Alcoraz on Sunday, and a late spot-kick given to Villarreal was missed by Gerard Moreno as the Submarino Amarillo spurned the chance to equalise in a 1-0 defeat to Real Valladolid earlier in the day.

Six clubs still to get a taste of VAR

According to figures compiled by the Spanish radio programme Carrusel Deportivo, Rayo, Espanyol, Girona and Huesca are the sides that have been involved in the most decision-changing VAR reviews so far - five each - while Athletic, Real Betis, Eibar, Getafe, Levante and Real Sociedad are yet to see a call reversed.
