Colombian defender Dávinson Sánchez played two games in less than 48 hours this week and his commitment and work rate over 180 minutes has impressed his coach Mauro Pochettino.

The defender started in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Monday, before lining out again on Wednesday for Spurs’ 3-1 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup. Sánchez was the only member of the squad to start both games for Pochettino, who had nothing but praise for the Colombian international.

"It was a very competitive game after playing on Monday. We nearly changed all the players and of course it's important, after only 48 hours, to say [well done] to Dávinson Sánchez because his effort on Monday and [Wednesday] was massive,” Argentine coach told the club's website.

“He showed great mentality. He's a beast."

Sánchez has enjoyed more prominence at Spur’s this season. At this point last season, he had played a total of 603 minutes; while this season he has so far clocked up 540 minutes. He has also played all 90 minutes of each of Spurs’ three Champions League fixtures, and his incredible efforts over two games in 48 hours will stand him in even better steed with the Spurs boss.
