Marco Asensio suggests others in team need to carry Real Madrid

The young Spaniard was interviewed by Vamos and spoke about the new boss: "Since Solari arrived, things have improved, the results have been better".

Marco Asensio gave an interview to Vamos in which he touched on a number of topics - including how Real Madrid have fared since Santiago Solari took over from Julen Lopetegui.

Personal situation: "When things are going well, they start saying you're the best but as soon as things go wrong, suddenly you are the worst. Some of the criticism though is justified and fair but we know how journalism works here. Nor do I want to lump everyone together in their criticism, but some of it is aimed at us just to cause harm. I'm not going to pay that much attention to it - I have my own things to focus on and it doesn't affect me".

Football can be unfair at times - Asensio

From Lopetegui to Solari: "Football was a bit unfair on Julen. In certain key moments, things just weren't working out for us or we lacked luck or whatever it is you want to call it...  It is a very difficult situation - with everything that happened with the national team and then the club - not just for him but also for the coaching staff who have always given their best. They didn't have that extra dose of luck which you need to succeed at Madrid, but I'm sure they'll do well during the rest of their careers".

Improvement: "It does seem that things have improved since Solari arrived, the results have been better - but that's football".

Solari: "He's our coach, we'll be with him to the death while he's with us. We have to be strong, like we always have been, so that we can get back to winning big games".

Helpful advice from Spain coach

Happy with the national team coach: "Right from the start, Luis Enrique has given me a lot of confidence; he looks out for me and gives me a lot of advice and that's important for a player".

Responsibilities: "For me, I don't see Madrid in a crisis. And I don't think it's for me to carry the team - there are players who are much more experienced, have more years playing under their belts and more status than I have and they're the one who have to lead the team. When the new coach arrived  I started off playing but now I am getting less chances but we'll draw any conclusions when the season has ended".
