José Miguel López Catalán, the vice president of Real Betis, has responded to comments made by Dani Ceballos regarding his departure from Real Betis in the summer of 2017 and says the Real Madrid midfielder is "telling stories that are far from reality."

Ceballos told El Chiringuito recently that "this question was going to be answered one day and I think it's the time" before explaining that he had important clubs interested in him but Real Betis were stalling on a new deal and waiting until the last moment.

Ceballos says Real Betis never stood up for him

"When I return to the Villamarín and they whistle me, it hurts," continued Ceballos. "Because everything I did for the club was positive. All the shit splashed on me and they washed their hands. Everybody thinks I went out the back door but that's not true."

The vice-president of the club has responded by saying, "that annoyed me a lot. Those words are false. Dani is telling a tale that is far from reality. Betis might have made an error of not signing a clause many months before but Ceballos spent many months stalling until the end to make an exit and thinking of himself and not thinking about Betis.

López Catalán says Quique Setien wanted to go and convince the player to stay but says they only chatted for five minutes at the stadium as documents were being signed. "Dani's exit was unpleasant for everything that happened in the end," he said.
