Usain Bolt offers: join Robinho in Turkey or Maradona in Mexico?
Usain Bolt has been contacted by Super Lig club Sivasspor, according to Turkish media reports; while Mexican press claim Maradona wants to sign him for Dorados de Sinaloa.
Olympic champion Usain Bolt may have a deal on the table with Turkish Super Lig club Sivasspor, which could see him join the team as early as January 2019 during the transfer window, according to Turkey’s TRT television network.
Since the eight-time Olympic gold-medal winner retired from athletics, he has been trying to carve out a career in professional football, and has had trials with clubs in Europe and Australia.
The former Jamaican sprinter brought an end to his two-month trial with A-League’s Central Coast Mariners, at the beginning of November, after the Australian club was unable to meet his reported salary demands of AUS$3 million a year.
After the potential Mariners deal fell through, Usain Bolt revealed last week that he may give up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer despite having "a lot of offers". Bolt was also linked with a move to Malta last month.
Bolt to make decision at end of November
"With the Central Coast, we couldn't work out the contract stuff so that's dead, but I've got a lot of offers from other clubs out there," he said on last Wednesday, November 15th.
"Now we're just trying to figure out what [to do]. We'll make a decision before the end of November if I'm going to go to another club or call it actually quits."
If TRT reports are correct, Bolt may see playing alongside the likes of former Brazil legend Robinho and Barcelona’s Brazilian loanee Douglas at Sivasspor, who currently lie in 11th place in the Super Lig, as an unmissable opportunity to continue his dream.
According to other media reports coming out of Mexico this week, Bolt may also have a chance to link up with Argentinean great, Diego Maradona.
Maradona is the current manager of Mexican club Dorados de Sinaloa, and the Mexican daily El Universal claims that the 1986 World Cup winner wants to sign the Jamaican athletics star -- both of whom are sponsored by Puma.
