José Mourinho sacked by Manchester United
The Old Trafford club have sacked the Portuguese coach after two and a half years in charge and will appoint a new caretaker manager until the end of the current season.
Manchester United have confirmed that Jose Mourniho has left the club as first team coach. Speculation grew over the weekend surrounding his continuation on the Old Trafford bench after the poor performance and 3-1 defeat away to Liverpool at Anfield.
United stated that they would appoint an interim coach (reportedly to be Micheal Carrick) to oversee the team for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign and thanked the Setubal born coach for his services.
In a brief communique, the club stated:
'Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.
The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.'
United languish 19 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table and much has been said about the tension within the Old Trafford dressing room between the coach and his players with Mourinho's relationship with Paul Pogba generating headlines in the recent past. The club were drawn yesterday with Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 in the 2018/19 Champions League.
