ATLÉTICO MADRID

Bayern Munich remaining coy on Lucas Hernández move

Hasan Salihamidzic and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge both played a straight bat when asked about their interest in the Atlético and France defender.

Speaking after Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the final round of Bundesliga fixtures before the winter break, both club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic refused to be drawn on reported interest at the German champions in Atlético Madrid defender Lucas Hernández.

We haven’t made any decision in that regard,” said Rummenigge, who added: “We haven’t decided if we will do something in the winter or summer market. Hasan Salihamidzic and his scouting team are watching interesting players. That’s their job and they are doing it very well. I am not concerned about the future and we will bring about this change in the team. Now we are in the first phase; the second will start in the summer.”

Salihamidzic was also asked about Hernández and said the reports over the last week of Bayern’s interest were “rumours.”

“We talk about and discuss many players,” Salihamidzic said. “We will keep out eyes open at all times.”

Hernández, 22, won the World Cup with France last summer and was courted by Real Madrid before electing to remain at Atlético. The left back has a release clause of 80 million written into his current contract, which expires in 2024. Atlético are keen to negotiate an extension on that deal and have already enlisted the aid of the player’s agent, Manolo García Quilón, with a view to making sure that happens.
