Liverpool's Alisson talks Karius, his dream, and why not Chelsea
The Reds' Brazilian goalkeeper spoke about why he chose to move to Liverpool and gave his view on the mistakes of his predecessor, Loris Karius.
Alisson Becker, Liverpool's record-signing goalkeeper from last summer, has spoken about why he opted for The Reds over Chelsea and also gave his thoughts on the infamous Champions League final errors of the man he replaced at the Anfield club, Loris Karius.
Alisson on Karius
“Even when my team scores after a big mistake from the opposition keeper, it’s a different feeling for me. I don’t celebrate it like any other goal," Alisson said to Four Four Two magazine, showing his support for the now-Besiktas player.
“I know what goes through the mind of a goalkeeper in those kind of moments," he continued, "I was so sad to see what happened to Karius – it could have happened to anyone.”
Liverpool over Chelsea
In addition, the Brazilian number one said he had no doubts when he was given the chance to sign for Liverpool, despite interest from other big clubs.
“I chose Liverpool for the same reasons I went to Roma when I first left Brazil – I thought this would be the best move for my career.
“Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League. I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history. This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet.
"I really wanted to be part of that history."
Champions League priority
The man who is up there with the best stoppers of 2018 is looking at this season with plenty of ambition, as Jürgen Klopp's side target much needed silverware in the final few months. For him, unlike many fans who dream of that elusive first Premier League title, the priority is to lift the European Cup.
“I came very close to winning the competition with Roma and I’m working hard to make it happen now with Liverpool. What’s life if not fighting for your dreams? I dream of winning the Champions League.”
