Icardi: Inter Milan ace comes with 20-goals-a-season guarantee
Since signing for Inter, Icardi has scored 120 in 204 games for the Italians, enjoying his best ever season last term: 29 in 36.
Mauro Icardi's contract renewal at Inter Milan "is a very long way off", was the categorical response given by the player's wife and agent, Wanda Nara, when asked by AS about his future at the Serie A club. The striker, whose present deal runs out in 2021, is being closely tracked by several major European suitors, is valued at around 100 million euros, and pretty much guarantees 20 goals a season.
Icardi's Inter scoring rate on the up since arrival
Since arriving at Inter in 2013, Icardi has scored 120 times in 204 appearances and, in the main, has found the target with increasing regularity as his San Siro career has progressed. In his first campaign in Milan, 2013/14, he produced a modest return of nine goals in 23 games, before upping his scoring rate the following year, 2014/15, grabbing 27 in 48 as his consistency, and his influence on the team, grew.
In 2015/16 and 2016/17, the Argentine scored 16 in 34 and 26 in 41, respectively, before enjoying his best season to date last term: 29 in 36. So far this campaign, he has 13 goals to his name in 22 matches, and is the captain and leader of an Inter side who sit third in Serie A and, though 14 points adrift of Juventus in top spot, are comfortably on course to clinch Champions League qualification.
Icardi has averaged goal every other game for Inter
In all, Icardi has averaged 0.57 goals a game as an Inter player and, now 25, has established himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. He is still to fully make his mark in an Argentina shirt, only recently opening his account for the Albiceleste - in November's 2-0 friendly win over Mexico - but, overall, his figures speak of a marksman with a killer instinct who is improving all the time.
