LAFC rule out Carlos Vela joining Barcelona on loan
John Thorrington, Director of Sport at the Californian club, says he knows nothing about any interest from Barça for the striker, who is due to start the pre-season on Monday.
Carlos Vela is due to arrive in Los Angeles today. He'll spend the last few days of his holidays resting on the west coast before reporting for duty at LAFC on Monday to start the pre-season. The Mexico international knows that Barcelona have him in mind as a winter transfer window option to resolve their problems in attack, after the Catalan club ruled out other alternatives - Álvaro Morata, Christian Stuani and Fernando Llorente.
Carlitos Vela's club know nothing about Barcelona's interest
LAFC, the club he joined from Real Sociedad last season, will be waiting to hear what the player has to say about the rumours but insist they have heard nothing - not a single phone call from Camp Nou. They say they will handle any enquiry for Vela if and when it comes but the reply will be clear - they have no intention of letting the striker leave at zero cost. The only way Vela can get out of his contract with the club is by negotiating a transfer fee - even then, would the player be willing to up sticks again to return to Europe again?
Vela currently earns six million euros (plus bonuses) per season. He is the team's emblematic player and the most loved by LAFC supporters. John Thorrington, the club's Director of Sport is well aware that losing a key player now would ruin his project for the new campaign. He also knows that Vela and his agent Eduardo Hernández have spoken to Barça and will be meeting with both of them to make the club's stance clear.
