PSG opt to avoid surgery on Neymar injury
A week after the Brazilian striker was forced to retire from the home game against Strasbourg and PSG finally confirmed their recovery approach for the player.
It's now a week since Brazilian star Neymar was forced to be substituted in the French Cup game at home to Strasbourg and this morning the the Ligue 1 outfit confirmed on how they plan to deal with the ankle injury sustained in the match. Two options were open to the Parisian side, one would see Neymar miss approximately two months of action and the other would see the Brazilian ruled out for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
The player underwent further tests yesterday and this morning the Ligue 1 side issued a statement confirming that the player would not undergo surgery. The process elected by the medical team will see a treatment of platelet rich plasma and mother cells being injected in an effort to boost the recovery process. Should this be effective, Neymar would miss approximately two months of action. The other alternative which was studied by PSG medics is an operation similar to that of 2018 when surgeons inserted a metal plate to weld together his fractured metatarsal. That line would have seen the Brazilian out of action for the rest of the season.
Brazilian FA doctor Rodrigo Lasmar arrived in Paris on Monday to also cast his assessment on the forward with the 2019 Copa America looming in June and set to be staged in Brazil.
