Real Madrid issued an official medical update this morning after Isco was forced to retire from Friday's Valdebebas training session early after the player complained about back pain.

The communique stated that the 26-year-old is suffering from acute "dorsalgia-cervicalgia" and will be monitored by the club's doctors with no time frame given as to when the player is expected to be ready for first team action again.

At present, the situation points to the player missing Madrid's trip to Amsterdam for the away leg of Round of 16 Champions League match. AS in-house doctor González offered some optimism staring "given the players age and providing that the pain is not too serious, he could be back in action in a matter of days". He added that one of the main causes for this type of pain is that the individuals is suffering a higher level of stress than normal. A situation perfectly conceivable given the well documented ongoing tension at Madrid between Isco and first team coach Santiago Solairi.
