Messi and that iconic photo of Pelé and Jairzinho at Mexico 70
Messi celebrated the second of his three goals against Sevilla with Dembélé and the image drew comparisons of the famous photo of Pelé and Jairzinho at Mexico 70.
Saturday's clash between Sevilla and Barcelona treated us to another exhibition display from Leo Messi, and also an image of the Barça ace which has gone viral on social media.
Messi and Pelé: up there
The game was in the 66th minute when Messi ran onto a Ousmane Dembélé pass, took one touch, then curled the ball inside the top corner - the second of the three goals he scored at the Sánchez Pizjuán to put Barça in front for the first time in the match.
The joy on the Argentinean's face as he celebrated with Dembélé, throwing a triumphant, clenched fist in the air was reminiscent of the famous image of Pelé and Jairzinho at the 1970 World Cup final after Brazil's opening goal in the 4-1 victory over Italy. Both photos have been shared on social media with some commentators using the occasion to compare Messi and Pelé as players - yet again...
Although some have already suggested it could even have been a little jibe at the great Brazilian following earlier comments he'd made.
