The president of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (Spanish FA) Luis Rubiales has confirmed on his social media account that the Monday night LaLiga games will be a thing of the past for the forthcoming 2019/20 season and would "see what would happen" to the Friday night fixture.

"There will be no more football on Mondays. Next season in LaLiga, games will be staged on Saturday and Sunday. We'll see what happens with the Friday night fixture if we can reach a mutually beneficial agreement. Business is important but the fans are every bit as important" stated Rubiales on Twitter.

The news comes just one day after LaLiga chief Javier Tebas reflected on kick-off times prompted by fan protests when he alluded that Monday may be open to all twenty sides in the competition.

"I'm concerned that people are protesting, I don't care if it's against me or someone else. I mentioned that for the new contract, we'd look to incorporate a new 14:00 CET slot on Sunday that could replace the Monday game. This slot has generated problems as those sides involved in Europe are exempt from playing. We're sensitive to these things and for that reason we've opened this new slot and there will be modifications next season" he concluded to the gathered media.
