LaLiga: fan power does away with detested Monday night game
After several protests against Monday night football, LaLiga has introduced a new 14:00 kick-off time on Sunday for Rayo against Betis in Vallecas.
LaLiga has announced the kick-off times for week 29 of the league season with one novelty that is likely to prove very popular.
After months of fan protests and the promise of Spanish Football Federation chief Luis Rubiales to knock the Monday night game out of the schedule for the 2019-20 season, his counterpart at the LFP Javier Tebas has elected to do away with the much maligned Monday match in the latest round of fixtures to be announced.
Friday football still on the Liga schedule for now
Rayo Vallacano’s home game against Betis, which was slated for the Monday slot, will now be played at a new kick.off time in the Spanish calendar, Sunday at 14:00.
For now, the Friday night game will continue, although Rubiales also stated that he would look into canning that fixture next season so that league football can return to being a purely weekend pursuit.
