The worst players in Premier League history
UK based magazine Four Four Two has complied a ranking of the Top 50 worst players ever to grace the English Premier League with three Spaniards included.
Respected UK monthly football magazine Four Four Two has complied a ranking of the Top 50 worst players to ever play in the Premier League with three Spanish players in the ignominious listing.
Topping the pile is Ali Dia. During a poor spell for Southampton in the mid 1990s, then Saints boss Graeme Souness claimed to have received a call from George Weah asking that the south coast club sign his cousin.
Weah was alleged to have told Souness about the player's time with PSG and in Senegal and managed to get Dia a spell with the club. With the injury room full Dia managed to make the bench for the visit of Leeds United in the 96-97 season.
Wearing the number 33 shirt for the November 1996 game after originally being scheduled to play in a reserve team friendly against Arsenal (which was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions), the player came on as a substitute for the injured Matthew Le Tissier after 32 minutes. With time running out and 'Saints' trailing Sopuness had seen enough and substituted the substitute in the minute, Leeds went on to win and Matt Le Tissier later said: "He ran around the pitch like Bambi on ice, it really was very embarrassing to watch".
